This summer is seeing the celebration of some of Hackneys most iconic landmarks with a collection of seven collectable postcards, which have been created by top local artists. Each of the seven postcards depicts a different and well known area within the London borough. The areas included within the limited edition collection are Chatsworth Road, Dalston, Shoredtich, Victoria Park, Stoke Newington, Hackney Wick and Hackney Central.
The postcards are free and can be found in venues across the Hackney area, so you can collect, swap or send these stunningly unique capsules of art with friends and family and share your summer moments #hackneysummer.
Although each of the cards take a different artistic approach and style, they combine and illustrate the areas unique attributes, from street and farmers markets, local bookstores and other businesses, to the beautiful canal and Victoria Park. We particular love Katrina Wight’s vintage imitation of Stoke Newington, which features small sketches of the local scenery.
Cllr Guy Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration said: “These postcards show the outstanding creativity that Hackney is known for, portraying the unique neighbourhoods that make our borough a great place to live and visit.”
The postcards are the perfect way for these local artists to represent and rejoice the area they have all come to love. Jane Smith artist of the Dalston postcard said “Hackney has real sense of community and a never ending range of things to do indoors and out. There is a thriving creative and art scene, lovely parks, cool shops, cafes, swimming pools, the variety of interesting buildings and the canal. I can’t think of a place I would rather live.”
So join many and have a Hackney summer, there are plenty of events, great activities and seasonal entertainment to suit everyone. Details of which can be found on www.destinationhackney.co.uk or by following @lovehackney.
