If you haven’t heard of Books Are My Bag – this is an annual nationwide campaign that supports and celebrates bookshops.

This event will culminate in Super Thursday: (9th October) where 1,000 high street bookshops will be holding special events including authors Paul Merton, John Cleese, Martina Cole, David Nicholls, Peter F Hamilton, Rachel Joyce, Alan Johnson, Ken Follet and Barbara Erskine. This day is also when the largest number of titles will be published – 315 hardback titles will be published.

High street bookshops will also be throwing Big Bookshop Parties on Saturday 11th October where shoppers will be welcomed to listen to book readings, eat, drink, read and share book recommendations.

Furthermore, if you’re a fan of tote bags – the award-winning British artist Tracey Emin has designed the 2014 collector’s edition Books are My Bag bag, which will be available from 11th October.

This campaign highlights the vital role of bookshops. The London Magazine encourages this project wholeheartedly and we urge you all to pop by an independent bookshop and show your support.
